Living in Tam O'Shanter
Tam O'Shanter is a private golf-course community of roughly 500 families in northeast Bellevue, developed in nine phases between the late 1960s and 1980s. Every homeowner receives deeded membership to the Tam o'Shanter Golf & Country Club, which includes a par-71 course, swimming pool, four tennis courts, clubhouse with restaurant, and a packed calendar of community events. Originally modest ramblers, many lots have been purchased and rebuilt into modern construction over the past five years. The neighborhood sits between Bellevue and Redmond with views of Lake Sammamish and the Cascades, and feeds into some of the highest-rated schools in Washington โ Bennett Elementary (9/10), Odle Middle (9/10), and Interlake High (10/10 with IB program).
Tam O'Shanter is car-dependent โ Walk Score 15, Transit Score 26, Bike Score 24. Almost all errands require a car. However, residents trade walkability for an unusually rich set of private amenities within the community itself: a par-71 golf course with two PGA professionals, a 25-yard pool with baby pool, four tennis courts, basketball and volleyball courts, a playground, and a clubhouse with restaurant (Mulligans). Community events include Family Bingo Night, Santa Brunch, Easter Egg Hunt, Father-Daughter Dance, Camp o'Shanter (camping on the golf course), and Fourth of July fireworks. Tam O'Shanter Park adds 15.5 acres of public trails, a zip-line playground, and picnic areas. Crossroads Mall (10 min) and Bellevue Square (12 min) handle shopping and dining. Lake Sammamish State Park is a 5-minute drive east.
Families who want top-rated schools (Bennett 9/10, Odle 9/10, Interlake 10/10 with IB) plus safe, community-oriented living Golf enthusiasts who want a private course with no green fees included in HOA โ unusually rare in the Puget Sound region Tech executives at Microsoft (8 min), Amazon (12 min), or Meta (10 min) who want a premium neighborhood without downtown Bellevue density
